A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Mrs. Henrice Berrien; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Henrice Berrien is the recipient of a Heart of the Community Award of Honor
sponsored by the Redmond Regional Medical Center and produced by the Heart of
the Community Board of Governors; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Berrien has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the
vital role that she has played in leadership and her deep personal commitment to
the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
a native of Rome, Mrs. Berrien graduated from Rome Colored High School and
earned a bachelor's degree from Savannah State College; and
WHEREAS,
dedicated to improving the community of Rome and the lives of Floyd County's
children, Mrs. Berrien has served as a teacher and mentor at Thankful Missionary
Baptist Church, has served on the Rome/Floyd County Commission on Children and
Youth and with the Rome Girls' Club, and has worked as a mentor for the Rome
Transitional Academy; and
WHEREAS,
her leadership and service have been instrumental in uplifting and promoting the
African American community through her work with the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority,
the Rome Branch of the NAACP, the African American Historical Society, and the
Martin Luther King, Jr., Commission; and
WHEREAS,
following in her mother's footsteps, who also won a Heart of the Community
Award, Mrs. Berrien has demonstrated great compassion for humanity, serving as a
volunteer with the Social Services Community Kitchen and the American Red Cross
Katrina Project; and
WHEREAS,
the benevolent and honorable deeds of this distinguished gentlewoman serve as a
shining example of volunteerism, and the State of Georgia is honored and blessed
to have Mrs. Barrien as a citizen.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend Mrs. Henrice Berrien on her volunteer efforts and
contributions and congratulate her on her recognition as an unsung hero with a
Heart of the Community Award of Honor.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mrs. Henrice
Berrien.
