RESOLUTION
Honoring
the life and memory of Mr. Bartow Jenkins; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its distinguished citizens and
public servants with the passing of Bartow Jenkins on September 17, 2008;
and
WHEREAS,
Bartow Jenkins served in the United States Navy during the final months of World
War II and, after receiving an honorable discharge from the United States Navy,
attended Troy State College in Alabama; and
WHEREAS,
in 1954, Mr. Jenkins came to Lawrenceville, Georgia, to take a teaching job and
serve as football coach and served as football coach at Central
Gwinnett-Lawrenceville High School from its opening until 1974; and
WHEREAS,
following his retirement as a football coach, Mr. Jenkins served as an assistant
principal at Central Gwinnett High School, the first principal of Parkview High
School, and as director of athletics for the Gwinnett County School District;
and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Jenkins served on the Lawrenceville City Council, was elected President of
the Gwinnett Municipal Association, was elected to the Gwinnett County
Commission, and served as Mayor of the City of Lawrenceville, Georgia, from 1988
until he retired in 2002; and
WHEREAS,
as a faithful member of Lawrenceville First Baptist Church, Mr. Jenkins taught
Sunday school for many years and was as dedicated to his position as a Sunday
school teacher as to his position as an educator, football coach, and public
servant; and
WHEREAS,
Bartow Jenkins believed his years as a coach, teacher, city councilmember, and
mayor were a calling to public service and served his city, county, and state
with dedication and distinction.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body hereby join in honoring the life and memory of Mr. Bartow Jenkins and in expressing their appreciation for his dedicated public service to his city, his county, and his state.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body hereby join in honoring the life and memory of Mr. Bartow Jenkins and in expressing their appreciation for his dedicated public service to his city, his county, and his state.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Jenkins's
family.
