A RESOLUTION


Honoring the life and memory of Bishop Robert Lee Beavers; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens with the passing of Bishop Robert Lee Beavers on October 28, 2008; and

WHEREAS, Bishop Beavers was born on June 19, 1937, in Cartersville, Georgia, a beloved son of Helen and the late Robert Beavers; and

WHEREAS, affectionately known as "Jackey," Bishop Beavers was the eldest of seven siblings and a graduate of Summer Hill High School, Reinhardt College, and Brenau College; and

WHEREAS, Bishop Beavers stood as guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty with the United States Air Force and was an accomplished musician and writer; and

WHEREAS, he wrote a column for the Cartersville Daily Tribune, helped write the popular song "Someday We'll Be Together," produced many Christian recordings such as "The Devil Stomp," and performed on a daily local cable television show where he shared with the audience his love of God and music; and

WHEREAS, Bishop Beavers diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of his time, talents, and energy toward the betterment of his community and state with several public service positions such as executive assistant to Governor Joe Frank Harris, aide to Speaker of the House of Representatives Tom Murphy, and chaplin of the Georgia House of Representatives; and

WHEREAS, Bishop Beavers provided unmatched spiritual assitance for over 31 years, serving as pastor at New Hope Baptist Church and Glory Harvester Church, and was consecrated as a Bishop at Chapel Hill Harvester Church by Archbishop Earl Paulk; and
WHEREAS, Bishop Beavers was united in love in marriage for 49 years to his devoted and supportive wife, Gloria Beavers, and he was blessed with three children, Caryn, Kevin, and Robin, and eight delightful grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and, by the example he made of his life, he made this world a better place in which to live.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body express their deepest and most sincere regret at the passing of Bishop Robert Lee Beavers.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Bishop Robert Lee Beavers.
