RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending the Newnan Reading Circle on the occasion of its 100th
anniversary; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
formed in 1909, the Reading Circle is the oldest ladies club in Newnan, Georgia,
and its purpose is the mutual improvement and pleasure of its members;
and
WHEREAS,
the Reading Circle is known for culture, congeniality, intellect, interest,
sensitivity, and study; and
WHEREAS,
the minutes of each meeting having been faithfully recorded over the last 100
years, serve as a treasured history of Newnan and reveal a glimpse of the great
city's past; and
WHEREAS,
since its creation, the Reading Circle has maintained its exclusive membership
at 20 women, with approximately 200 members over the past 99 years, and
continues to place a great emphasis on attendance and involvement with the
Reading Circle, with members being dismissed for poor attendance;
and
WHEREAS,
each member is assigned the task of designing and coordinating a program based
on the year's theme which they present to the group at a meeting and include the
study of a wide range of topics; and
WHEREAS,
at the conclusion of each meeting, each member is required to present a current
event for lively discussion and debate by the group; and
WHEREAS,
the Newnan Reading Circle has established a rich tradition of fellowship and
education over the last centennial and its members have earned a well-deserved
reputation for poise, culture, and class.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend the Newnan Reading Circle for its amazing contributions to the
community and congratulate its members on 100 years of enrichment.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Newnan
Reading Circle.
