RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Sheriff Al St. Lawrence for his 50 years of dedicated law
enforcement service to the citizens of Georgia; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
Sheriff Al St. Lawrence has had a long and exceptional career in law
enforcement, serving others oftentimes with great risk and sacrifice to himself
and family; and
WHEREAS,
his dedicated law enforcement career began on March 15, 1959, following his
honorable service in the United States Air Force, when he was employed as a
patrolman with the Chatham County Police Department; and
WHEREAS,
he continued his law enforcement service, moving up through the ranks of the
Chatham County Police Department, and on August 20, 1971, he was appointed Chief
of Police by the Chatham County Commissioners; and
WHEREAS,
on April 30, 1992, he retired as Chief of Police only to continue his work for
the people on May 26, 1992, as the newly elected Sheriff of Chatham County;
and
WHEREAS,
he has loyally and diligently served the residents of Chatham County for nearly
five decades, receiving numerous honors and recognitions for his outstanding
service including: Chatham County Policeman of the Year; Georgia's peace
officer's highest honor, the Executive Certificate; Georgia Chiefs of Police
Association Outstanding Chief Award; Georgia Sheriffs' Association Distinguished
Humanitarian Award; and the Georgia Sheriffs' Association Sheriff of the Year
Award; and
WHEREAS,
his tremendous dedication and commitment to his community is further
demonstrated by his service as chairman on the Peace Officers Standards and
Training Council; president of the Island Exchange Club; president of the F.B.I.
National Academy Associates; president of the Chatham County Chief's
Association; and president of the Georgia Sheriffs' Association;
and
WHEREAS,
Al St. Lawrence is a loving husband to his wife Patsy St. Lawrence and a devoted
father, grandfather, and great-grandfather to his six children, 13
grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS,
Sheriff Al St. Lawrence is a dedicated member of his community and a person of
magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity,
intelligence, fairness, and kindness; and his unparalleled leadership talents,
his remarkable patience and diplomacy, his keen sense of vision, and his acute
sensitivity to the needs of the citizens of his community and state have earned
him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and all those who have had the
great honor and privilege to know him.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body hereby commend Sheriff Al St. Lawrence for his 50 years of sacrifice
and honorable service to the people of Georgia and extend sincere best wishes
for success in future endeavors.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Sheriff Al
St. Lawrence.
