RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Representative Bob Smith; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Bob Smith was born and raised in Oconee County, Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
he became actively involved in campaigns and politics at the age of six;
and
WHEREAS,
he is a 1976 graduate of the University of Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
Representative Bob Smith and his wife Laura are the proud parents of three
children, one of whom attended Georgia Tech and two of whom are attending the
University of Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
he has served 12 years of committed service to the State of Georgia in the
Georgia General Assembly as a member of the House of Representatives, where he
currently serves as a member of the Rules Committee, Energy, Utilities and
Telecommunications Committee, Appropriations Committee, and Legislative and
Congressional Reapportionment Committee; and
WHEREAS,
many people inside and outside of elected politics have been inspired by
Representative Smith's deep passion for grassroots politics and for improving
Georgia, as demonstrated by his membership in the Oconee Rotary Club and the
Athens Area Association of Realtors and by his service as one of the founding
members of the Oconee County Relay for Life Organization; and
WHEREAS,
no individual Representative has ever championed the importance of
nano-technology so passionately; and
WHEREAS,
no other Representative has ever been so confident as to address the House floor
without wearing shoes; and
WHEREAS, he has single-handedly rejuvenated Georgia's efforts to put a man on the moon; and
WHEREAS, he has single-handedly rejuvenated Georgia's efforts to put a man on the moon; and
WHEREAS,
he was never afraid of showing his undying devotion to the Board of Regents;
and
WHEREAS,
"The tree doesn't fall far from the apple"; and
WHEREAS,
he has worked tirelessly to improve the relationship between Georgia and Italy;
and
WHEREAS,
he is still searching for his camera; and
WHEREAS,
we assume his reading glasses will be found with said camera; and
WHEREAS,
he is a man whose service and friendship will be greatly missed by those in the
General Assembly and all who have been blessed to know him; and
WHEREAS,
we celebrate Representative Smith's birthday today and everyday.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body recognize and commend Representative Bob Smith for his tireless
service as a member of this body on behalf of the people of his district and the
State of Georgia and extend to him their best wishes for the
future.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to
Representative Bob Smith.
