A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending the Vinings Historic Preservation Society; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the Vinings Historic Preservation Society (VHPS) was established in 1993 by the Ruth Carter Vanneman Foundation, Inc., a nonprofit, charitable corporation, for the purpose of preserving the historic spirit and structures of Vinings; and

WHEREAS, historic buildings, such as the Pace House, the Old Pavilion, and Vinings Center, serve as a focal point for Vinings' colorful history and tell vivid stories of the city's past; and

WHEREAS, in order to further its mission, the Vinings Historic Preservation Society strives to educate the public about local history, engages in community preservation activities, and forges long-lasting relationships with the local residents and stakeholders; and

WHEREAS, VHPS maintains an informal museum among its three main facilities where it collects and displays artifacts and other memorabilia from old Vinings and the founding family, the Paces; and

WHEREAS, under the leadership of Executive Director Gillian Greer, VHPS schedules events and community programs to help involve the public in the enjoyment of Vinings' historic spirit, including the annual Vinings Tour of Homes; and

WHEREAS, bringing together members of the community helps to strengthen relationships as well as commitment to the preservation of Vinings' history; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding contributions of this distinguished organization be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend the Vinings Historic Preservation Society and Executive Director Gillian Greer for their effective, efficient, unselfish, and dedicated public service to the community of Vinings and the State of Georgia.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Vinings Historic Preservation Society.
