A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commemorating the kickoff of the Great American Cleanup in Georgia and the 74 local Keep America Beautiful affiliates; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the 74 local Keep America Beautiful affiliates organize thousands of volunteers to improve communities statewide; and

WHEREAS, the Keep Georgia Beautiful Foundation, in partnership with the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, supports the largest network of local Keep America Beautiful affiliates in the nation; and

WHEREAS, a national campaign of Keep America Beautiful, the Great American Cleanup begins on March 1 and focuses on litter prevention, community beautification and improvements, and reducing the impact of waste on communities; and

WHEREAS, 60,952 volunteers donated 200,645 hours of service to improve 367 Georgia communities from March to May in 2011; and

WHEREAS, in 2011, Georgia's Great American Cleanup volunteers cleaned up 1.3 million pounds of litter from Georgia roadways and recycled eight million pounds of materials; and

WHEREAS, local Keep America Beautiful affiliates hosted 914 educational workshops and general environmental awareness events reaching 388,911 participants from March to May in 2011.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commemorate local Keep America Beautiful affiliates and their thousands of volunteers in the kickoff of the Great American Cleanup.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the public and the press.
