A RESOLUTION

Commending Georgia farmers and challenging agricultural organizations to promote sustainability by educating their members on the 4Rs; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Georgia leaders who propose sustainability policies should also consider supporting practices that "sustain" the "ability" of Georgia farmers to produce for the needs of this nation and the world; and

WHEREAS, plant nutrients sustain healthy plant growth and ensure abundant supplies of food, fiber, and fuel for our citizens; and

WHEREAS, as responsible stewards of the environment, Georgia farmers embrace, at an increasing rate, a myriad of technologies that improve precision in modern agriculture and avoid waste; and

WHEREAS, further adoption of precision agriculture practices will yield higher degrees of stewardship and greater profitability for Georgia farm families; and

WHEREAS, the concept of Right Source, Right Rate, Right Time, and Right Place (the 4Rs), developed by the International Plant Nutrition Institute in Atlanta, Georgia, is an outstanding communication tool for public awareness and education on best planting and farming practices; and

WHEREAS, all agricultural organizations in Georgia are challenged to promote the 4R Nutrient Stewardship Framework to their members as a best management practice in order to promote sustainability and effectively deliver quality crops to the people of this nation and the world.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend the hardworking and resourceful farmers of Georgia who make a positive impact on this state's economy and environment, recognize the importance of sustainability polices that aid the Georgia farmer in providing quality and affordable food to the people of Georgia, and challenge agricultural organizations to promote sustainability by educating their members on the 4Rs.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit appropriate copies of this resolution to the Georgia Agribusiness Council, Georgia Farm Bureau, Georgia Plant Food Educational Society, and Georgia Poultry Federation for further distribution to the agricultural community of Georgia.
