A RESOLUTION


Honoring the life and memory of Mr. Verner Spence "Sug" Hamrick; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens with the passing of Mr. Verner Spence "Sug" Hamrick on March 22, 2012; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Hamrick was born on February 15, 1925, in Eatonton, Georgia, a beloved son of the late Verner B. and Floy Hamrick; and

WHEREAS, a man of deep and abiding faith, Mr. Hamrick was an active member of St. Paul United Methodist Church for over 60 years; and

WHEREAS, a community leader, Mr. Hamrick served on the Gainesville City Fire Department for 44 years and was a member of the Paul E. Bolding Post No. 7 American Legion, the 40 & 8, the Masonic Lodge No. 219 of Gainesville, and the Elks Club; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Hamrick leaves behind many who will cherish his memory, including his wife, Ruth Haynes Murff Hamrick; daughters, Brenda Matthews and Patricia Tatum; stepdaughter, Carol Murff Zimmerman; and stepsons, Phillip Murff and Steve Murff; and

WHEREAS, he was the proud grandfather of 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, he gave inspiration to many through his high ideals, morals, and deep concern for his fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding he demonstrated to his family and friends were admired by others; and

WHEREAS, he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and, by the example he made of his life, he made this world a better place in which to live; and
WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous man, Mr. Hamrick will long be remembered for his love of family and friendship, and this loyal husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend will be missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing him.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory of Mr. Verner Spence "Sug" Hamrick and express their deepest and most sincere regret at his passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Mr. Verner Spence "Sug" Hamrick.
