RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending the Lucy C. Laney High School boys basketball team on their GHSA
AA State Championship; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
through perseverance and iron determination, the Lucy C. Laney High School boys
basketball team finished their season with a two-year record of 56-6 by winning
their first GHSA AA State Championship; and
WHEREAS,
the Lucy C. Laney High School Wildcats accomplished their first undefeated
regular season in 2010-2011 with an overall score of 23-0; and
WHEREAS,
the Lucy C. Laney High School boys basketball team are back-to-back sub-region
champs, 2010-2011 region runner-ups, and 2011-2012 region champs and were in the
final four for three consecutive seasons; and
WHEREAS,
players Raheem Newton, Glenn Rodriguez, and Jammie West own a career record of
85-9; and
WHEREAS,
the phenomenal performance of the Wildcats team is a clear indication of the
outstanding athletic ability, the dedication and hard work, and the unity of
purpose and spirit of each member of the team; their superb offensive and
defensive talents; and the astute direction of Head Coach Jerry Hunter;
and
WHEREAS,
as this magnificent team earned its well-deserved reputation for excellence by
performing with courage and precision over months of training and competition,
it is abundantly proper to call them champions.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body congratulate the Lucy C. Laney High School boys basketball team for
winning the GHSA AA State Championship and extend their sincerest best wishes
for future success.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Lucy C.
Laney High School boys basketball team.
