A RESOLUTION


Congratulating the Wesleyan School girls basketball team for winning the 2010 Class A State Championship; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the Wesleyan School girls basketball team demonstrated a feat of greatness with a 65-49 victory over Savannah Christian to clinch the 2010 Class A State Championship; and

WHEREAS, this incredible team finished the season with a record of 28-4 and earned the Wesleyan School its third-straight state championship in girls basketball and the seventh in the past nine years; and

WHEREAS, the phenomenal performance of the team is a clear indication of the outstanding athletic ability, the dedication and hard work, and the unity of purpose and spirit of each member of the team and their superb offensive and defensive talents; and

WHEREAS, this all-star team included 16 stellar athletes dedicated to bringing a state title home to the Wesleyan School: Grace Leah Baughn, Taylor Blackmon, Missy Byrd, Kaelyn Causwell, Megan Coole, Grace Cowart, Jordan Frazier, Katie Frerking, Kennington Groff, Erin Hall, Aysia McKenzie, Logan Morris, Brittany Stevens, Kendra Talley, CaraMia Tsirigos, and Holli Wilkins; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Wolves were challenged to succeed and led by the astute direction of Head Coach Jan Azar and Assistant Coaches Nichole Dixon, Andy Free, Greg Lisson, and Mary Stephenson; and

WHEREAS, Coach Azar was named Georgia High School Girls Coach of the Year by the Atlanta Tipoff Club, boasting seven state titles with the Lady Wolves and an impressive 321-75 record in 13 seasons; and

WHEREAS, as this magnificent team earned its well-deserved reputation for excellence by performing with courage and precision over months of training and competition, it is abundantly proper to call them champions.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body congratulate the Wesleyan School girls basketball team for winning the 2010 Class A State Championship.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Head Coach Jan Azar.
