A RESOLUTION


Commending Rear Admiral Annie B. Andrews and inviting her to be recognized by the House of Representatives; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, a native of Midway, Georgia, Rear Admiral (RDML) Annie B. Andrews is the loving daughter of Electra Andrews, retired Captain in the Liberty County Sheriff's Department; and

WHEREAS, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice from Savannah State University, a Master of Science degree in management from Troy State University, a master's degree in national security and strategic studies from the Naval War College, and an honorary doctorate in humane letters from Wilson College; and

WHEREAS, as a human resources officer specializing in manpower, training, and education, RDML Andrews's assignments have included Training Air Wing Five, Helicopter Training Squadron Eight, Joint Intelligence Center Pacific (JICPAC) as an intelligence analyst, and several assignments in Washington, D.C., Iceland, and the Philippines; and

WHEREAS, as a commanding officer she commanded the Boston Military Entrance Processing Station, the Naval Recruiting District in San Francisco, and the Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Illinois; and

WHEREAS, RDML Andrews served as executive assistant and naval aide to the Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Manpower and Reserves Affairs and was a Fellow on the Chief of Naval Operations Strategic Studies Group at the Naval War College; and

WHEREAS, she has received numerous honors, including the Legion of Merit with one Gold Star, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal with one Oak Cluster, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation with two Gold Stars, and the Joint Service Achievement Medal; and
WHEREAS, she is the first African American female Flag Officer from Georgia and only the third in the United States Navy; and

WHEREAS, RDML Andrews embodies the spirit of service, willing to find meaning in something greater than herself, and her courageous actions have brought great distinction to herself, her state, and this nation.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Rear Admiral Annie B. Andrews for her unselfish and dedicated service to the citizens of her country, extend their most profound appreciation for her and all members of the United States military who stand ever ready to lay the ultimate sacrifice upon the altar of freedom, and invite her to be recognized by the House of Representatives at a date and time designated by the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Rear Admiral Annie B. Andrews.
