A RESOLUTION


Honoring the life and memory of Mr. Calvin Douglas Perkins; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens with the passing of Mr. Calvin Douglas Perkins on March 3, 2010; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Perkins was born on June 10, 1932, in Greensboro, Georgia, a beloved son of the late Calvin Perkins and Leola Smith Perkins; and

WHEREAS, he served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty with the United States Army, valiantly and courageously protecting democracy and his fellow Americans for 22 years, retiring at the rank of SFC E7; and

WHEREAS, after his dedicated service in the military, Mr. Perkins joined the mail department at CB&T and, upon retirement from CB&T, spent 23 years working in the HVAC industry; and

WHEREAS, a man of deep and abiding faith, Mr. Perkins was a member of St. James CME Church, where he served as a steward; and

WHEREAS, this community leader was an active member of the Prince Hall Grand Lodge for over 45 years, was a member at D.P. Nesbitt #5, and served as Past Master of Sons of King Solomon Lodge #358, Grand Inspector General 33° of the United Supreme Council A.A.S.R. of the Freemasonry, Prince Hall Affiliated Grand Orient of Washington, D.C., Jacob Harrison Consistory #85, Past Excellent High Priest at St. Andrews Chapter #39, and Past Illustrious Potentate at Al Faruk Shrine Temple #145; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Perkins was united in love and marriage for 54 wonderful years to Lillie J. Perkins, and was blessed with three wonderful daughters, Janice, Yvonnie, and Tara; two grandchildren, Yoshica and Donival; and a great-granddaughter, Daisha; and
WHEREAS, he gave inspiration to many through his high ideals, morals, and deep concern for his fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding he demonstrated to his family and friends were admired by others; and

WHEREAS, he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and, by the example he made of his life, he made this world a better place in which to live; and

WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous man, Mr. Perkins will long be remembered for his love of family and friendship, and this loyal husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend will be missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing him.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory of Mr. Calvin Douglas Perkins and express their deepest and most sincere regret at his passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Mr. Calvin Douglas Perkins.
