A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Mr. John K. Dewberry; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mr. John K. Dewberry has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the vital role that he has played in leadership and his expertise in the field of real estate and development; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Dewberry earned a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and began his career in real estate with Marine Midland Bank as assistant vice president; and

WHEREAS, he has diligently and conscientiously devoted his time, talents, and energy since 1989 as chairman and CEO of Dewberry Capital Corporation, an Atlanta-based holding company focused on the acquisition, development, and management of real estate and corporate assets; and

WHEREAS, over the past 20 years, the company has expanded to own and develop more than two million square feet of property throughout the Southeast, and Mr. Dewberry has 100 percent ownership of sites slated for approximately $5 billion in development in Atlanta, Charleston, Jacksonville, and Richmond; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Dewberry has been recognized with numerous honors, including a Best in Atlanta Real Estate Award from the Atlanta Business Chronicle, the 2009 Georgia Tech Total Person Former Student Athlete Award, and was inducted into the Georgia Tech Sports Hall of Fame and College of Management Hall of Fame; and

WHEREAS, he has been featured in Fortune Magazine, Catalyst Magazine, Peach Magazine, and Georgia Trend Magazine's Top 40 under 40 and Top 100 Most Influential Georgians for his foresight and accomplishments; and

WHEREAS, active in community and civic affairs, Mr. Dewberry is a trustee of the Paul Anderson Youth Home for Boys and is a member of the Georgia Institute of Technology Foundation Board, Action Ministries Advisory Board, and the Atlanta Board for the Savannah College of Art and Design; and

WHEREAS, his significant organizational and leadership talents, his remarkable patience and diplomacy, his keen sense of vision, and his sensitivity to the needs of the citizens of Georgia have earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and associates; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Mr. John K. Dewberry on his amazing career and his many contributions to his community and the State of Georgia and congratulate him upon 20 years of success with Dewberry Capital Corporation.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. John K. Dewberry.
