RESOLUTION
Commending
Valdosta State University; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Valdosta State University is a unit of the University System of Georgia and has
a received a Regent's Award for Excellence in Theatre; and
WHEREAS,
Valdosta State University has produced professional repertory musical theatre
since 1990; and
WHEREAS,
Valdosta State University produced Jekyll Island Musical Theatre Festival from
1990 through 2004 in the Historic District of Jekyll Island, Georgia;
and
WHEREAS,
in 2005, Valdosta State University opened Peach State Summer Theatre on the
campus of Valdosta State University; and
WHEREAS,
from 1993 through 2004, Valdosta State University's Jekyll Island Musical
Theatre Festival was the Official Musical Theatre of the State of Georgia;
and
WHEREAS,
in 2006, the General Assembly designated Valdosta State University's Peach State
Summer Theatre as the Official Musical Theatre of the State of Georgia;
and
WHEREAS,
Valdosta State University's Peach State Summer Theatre is working hard to
improve the artistic and recreational experiences for Georgia residents and
out-of-state tourists; and
WHEREAS,
the existence of musical theatre is a vital component of the artistic and
cultural life in Georgia.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body wholeheartedly commend Valdosta State University on this, the 20th
Anniversary of producing professional repertory musical theatre.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House or Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Valdosta
State University.
