A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending Reverend Jerry D. Black on the occasion of his 20th pastoral anniversary; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Reverend Jerry D. Black accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior at the age of 12 and served as Minister of Music at the West End Baptist Church in Blytheville, Arkansas; and

WHEREAS, at the age of 21 he accepted his calling to preach the Gospel, serving as pastor of the Greater Paradise Baptist Church in Little Rock, Arkansas, where during his 15 years of service the church membership grew from 17 members to over 3,000; and

WHEREAS, Reverend Black was united in love and marriage for 32 years to the late Glenda J. Harris Black, and this union blessed them with four remarkable children, Tangie, Jerry, Jr., Erica, and Terica, and four delightful grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, the Beulah Church family confirmed the divine appointment of Reverend Black as their seventh pastor in November of 1991; and

WHEREAS, as church attendance grew to such an extent that the capacity was overflowing, Reverend Black purchased a former golf course as the land of Beulah Church's next home; and

WHEREAS, this humble man has become nationally recognized for his preaching, but his heart for serving God has not changed; and

WHEREAS, he is a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this enduring example of God's message of peace and love be recognized and congratulated for his innumerable good works rendered on behalf of persons in need.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body congratulate Reverend Jerry D. Black on the occasion of his 20th pastoral anniversary and extend best wishes for many more years of successful fellowship and leadership.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Reverend Jerry D. Black.
