A RESOLUTION

Congratulating Grace Palmer on being named a Distinguished Finalist in the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards and commending her on her service to the community; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards were created in 1995 by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals as a way of honoring young Americans who contribute to their communities through volunteer service; and

WHEREAS, Grace Palmer, 17, of Savannah, Georgia, has been honored by being named a Distinguished Finalist in the 15th Annual Prudential Spirit of Community Awards; and

WHEREAS, this is an extraordinary honor as Ms. Palmer was selected from more than 21,000 young people across the country to receive the bronze medallion; and

WHEREAS, students like Grace represent the best of America's youth and are tremendous role models for their peers and their communities; and

WHEREAS, this remarkable young lady has performed numerous volunteer hours, including raising more than $34,000.00 for cancer research over the past five years by sailing in the Leukemia Cup Regatta, preparing home-cooked meals and a specialty cake each month for families at a Ronald McDonald House as president of her school's cooking club, and raising money and cleaning and cooking at the Ronald McDonald House throughout the year as an active member of the Ronald McDonald House teen board; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Palmer's hard work and dedication to serving others make her a perfect choice for this prestigious honor, and her extraordinary volunteer work serves as a shining example to all who seek to give back to their communities.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body join together to congratulate Grace Palmer on being named a Distinguished Finalist in the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards and to commend her on her outstanding community service.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Grace Palmer.
