RESOLUTION
Proclaiming
February 7-13, 2010, as Burn Awareness Week in Georgia; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
annually in the United States, fires and burns result in almost 4,000 deaths and
more than 745,000 non-hospitalized injuries among all age groups;
and
WHEREAS,
burn injuries are the second leading cause of death in the United States next to
motor vehicle accidents; and
WHEREAS,
annually, Burn Awareness Week is observed during the first full week of
February; and
WHEREAS,
Burn Awareness Week is designed to provide an opportunity for burn, fire, and
life safety educators to unite in sharing a common burn awareness and prevention
message in our communities; and
WHEREAS,
Burn Awareness Week is a national initiative of the American Burn Association;
and
WHEREAS,
Georgia is fortunate to have the Joseph M. Still Burn Center located at Doctors
Hospital in Augusta; and
WHEREAS,
the Joseph M. Still Burn Center, founded in 1978, is the largest burn center in
the United States and, along with its associated Joseph M. Still Advanced Wound
and Burn Clinic, it provides care for thousands of patients
annually.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body proclaim the week of February 7-13, 2010, as Burn Awareness Week in
Georgia and extend their appreciation to the many individuals in Georgia who
work to care for those who experience burn injuries and to prevent such injuries
from occurring.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Joseph M.
Still Burn Center.
