A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending Nicky Akande; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Collins Hill High School's senior cross country runner Nicky Akande recently added her name to the long list of Collins Hill High runners who have won the Class AAAAA state title; and

WHEREAS, Nicky's impressive performance at the state tournament makes her the sixth Collins Hill High runner in a row to earn the title of state champion, and she was named 2009 Girls Runner of the Year by the Gwinnett Daily Post; and

WHEREAS, she finished the championship race with a time of 17 minutes and 55 seconds, setting a new personal record in the final race of her high school career; and

WHEREAS, Nicky's first place time was 39 seconds ahead of her second placed competitor; and

WHEREAS, she consistently demonstrated throughout her high school career that she could handle pressure and excelled in races due to her superior endurance, breathing techniques, and stride length; and

WHEREAS, Nicky has proven herself to be a dedicated, talented, and successful student-athlete, and this body looks with great anticipation to her many future accomplishments both on and off the track.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Nicky Akande for her outstanding athletic abilities, congratulate her on her impressive achievements and honors, and extend to her best wishes for her future.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Nicky Akande.
