RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Leadership Sandy Springs on the occasion of its 25th anniversary;
and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Leadership Sandy Springs was founded in 1986 as a nonprofit organization to
prepare citizens within Sandy Springs to assume leadership positions;
and
WHEREAS,
Leadership Sandy Springs' mission is to identify, educate, and develop Sandy
Springs leaders and encourage their participation in addressing the needs of
their community; and
WHEREAS,
Leadership Sandy Springs conducts an annual class to bring together individuals
from diverse backgrounds to participate in a planned series of program days and
activities, learn about the Sandy Springs area, hear from decision makers,
interact with elected officials and community leaders, and study issues facing
businesses and the changing community; and
WHEREAS,
Leadership Sandy Springs has graduated close to 700 individuals who are prepared
to make the future their responsibility; and
WHEREAS,
graduates of Leadership Sandy Springs have continued serving their community as
elected officials, judges, and government employees; as members of city and
community advisory councils, commissions, and task forces; as presidents and
board members of nonprofit organizations, schools, and churches; and through
ongoing volunteerism; and
WHEREAS,
the classes have completed 40 annual class projects benefiting the City of Sandy
Springs and its citizens; and
WHEREAS,
Leadership Sandy Springs has for the past ten years conducted the annual
Volunteer for a Better Sandy Springs Day which has completed projects each year
at 20 sites, including nonprofits, parks, libraries, and public schools with
about 500 volunteers participating annually; and
WHEREAS,
Leadership Sandy Springs is in its eighth year of presenting Sandy Springs
Movies by Moonlight, a very successful family friendly outdoor movie series
promoting a sense of community; and
WHEREAS,
Leadership Sandy Springs has launched a Youth Leadership Sandy Springs program
for high school sophomores and juniors who live or attend school in Sandy
Springs to better prepare them for future civic involvement; and
WHEREAS,
Leadership Sandy Springs continues to work in partnership with other community
organizations and the city for the betterment of the Sandy Springs community;
and
WHEREAS,
Leadership Sandy Springs is celebrating its Silver Anniversary with special
programs for alumni to promote their continued community
involvement.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body recognize Leadership Sandy Springs, commend it on its accomplishments
over the years, and congratulate the organization on the occasion of its 25th
anniversary.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Leadership
Sandy Springs.
