A RESOLUTION


Honoring the life and memory of Sheriff Cecil Nobles; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens with the passing of Sheriff Cecil Nobles on January 9, 2012; and

WHEREAS, Sheriff Nobles was born on February 21, 1935, in Long County, a beloved son of Raymond Elliot and Minnie Baxter Nobles; and

WHEREAS, a man of deep and abiding faith, Sheriff Nobles was an active member of Jones Creek Baptist Church; and

WHEREAS, he gave 51 years of service to public office, 11 terms as sheriff and two terms as coroner, and was the longest serving sheriff in the State of Georgia as well as the second longest serving sheriff in the United States; and

WHEREAS, Sheriff Nobles was united in love and marriage to Peggy DeLoach Nobles and was blessed with three remarkable sons, James Cecil, Jr., Kenneth Elliot, and Craig William; and

WHEREAS, he gave inspiration to many through his high ideals, morals, and deep concern for his fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding he demonstrated to his family and friends were admired by others; and

WHEREAS, he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness, and, by the example he made of his life, he made this world a better place in which to live; and

WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous man, Sheriff Cecil Nobles will long be remembered for his devotion to public service, his commitment to law enforcement, and his love for family and friends, and this loyal husband, father, son, and friend will be missed by all who has the great fortune of knowing him.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory of Sheriff Cecil Nobles and express their deepest and most sincere regret at his passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Sheriff Cecil Nobles.
