    1                          Senate Resolution                         
    2         A resolution recognizing March 3, 2010, as “Palm Beach 
    3         County Day” in Florida. 
    4   
    5         WHEREAS, Palm Beach County has a long record of serving as 
    6  a responsible steward of environmentally sensitive lands, and 
    7         WHEREAS, Palm Beach County has funded and completed many 
    8  environmental restoration efforts and purchases of 
    9  environmentally sensitive lands for preservation purposes, and 
   10         WHEREAS, Palm Beach County has led in the efforts to 
   11  restore and preserve the Loxahatchee River, one of only two 
   12  federally designated Wild and Scenic Rivers in Florida, and 
   13         WHEREAS, Palm Beach County has partnered effectively with 
   14  the State of Florida, the South Florida Water Management 
   15  District, and many local municipalities in efforts to restore 
   16  and preserve the Lake Worth Lagoon and the historic Chain of 
   17  Lakes region and implement the Natural Areas Program, and 
   18         WHEREAS, Palm Beach County has partnered with the State of 
   19  Florida and the Federal Government to build the Lake Region 
   20  Water Treatment Plant in Belle Glade, which provides clean 
   21  drinking water to one of the state’s economically disadvantaged 
   22  areas, and 
   23         WHEREAS, with the opening of the Lake Region Water 
   24  Treatment Plant, residents of western Palm Beach County now 
   25  receive their drinking water from the Floridan Aquifer, rather 
   26  than directly from Lake Okeechobee, which supports the 
   27  responsible restoration of the lake, and 
   28         WHEREAS, Palm Beach County and the State of Florida have 
   29  successfully prioritized these local projects that directly 
   30  restore and preserve the state’s most environmentally sensitive 
   31  areas, NOW, THEREFORE, 
   32   
   33  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida: 
   34   
   35         That, in appreciation of the long record of Palm Beach 
   36  County working in partnership with local, state, and federal 
   37  agencies to serve as a responsible and active steward of 
   38  environmentally sensitive lands, March 3, 2010, is recognized as 
   39  “Palm Beach County Day” in Florida.
