Florida Senate - 2022 (NP) SR 1980 By Senator Farmer 34-02940-22 20221980__ 1 Senate Resolution 2 A resolution recognizing April 4-8, 2022, as “Food 3 Waste Prevention Week” in Florida. 4 5 WHEREAS, up to 40 percent of all food produced is thrown 6 away rather than eaten, and 7 WHEREAS, everyone benefits from better utilizing food 8 resources, and 9 WHEREAS, a family of four can save an average of $1,800 on 10 uneaten food annually, and 11 WHEREAS, K-12 schools, colleges, and universities play a 12 special role in educating the next generation on the importance 13 of reducing food waste and recovering and recycling food, and 14 WHEREAS, Floridians have the opportunity to save shared 15 resources, such as water and energy, used to produce and 16 transport food that ultimately goes uneaten, and 17 WHEREAS, food in landfills decomposes slowly, releasing 18 methane gas, which contributes to climate change, NOW, 19 THEREFORE, 20 21 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida: 22 23 That April 4-8, 2022, is recognized as “Food Waste 24 Prevention Week” in Florida, and all Floridians are encouraged 25 to commit to reducing food waste.
