Florida Senate - 2022 (NP) SR 1974 By Senator Berman 31-00615-22 20221974__ 1 Senate Resolution 2 A resolution recognizing the week of April 24 through 3 May 1, 2022, as the “Days of Remembrance” and April 4 28, 2022, as “Holocaust Remembrance Day” in Florida. 5 6 WHEREAS, the Holocaust, the state-sponsored, systematic 7 persecution and annihilation of European Jewry by Nazi Germany 8 and its collaborators between 1933 and 1945, resulted in the 9 murder of six million Jewish people, and 10 WHEREAS, in addition, Roma and Poles were targeted for 11 decimation for racial, ethnic, or national reasons, and millions 12 more, including persons with disabilities, homosexuals, 13 Jehovah’s Witnesses, Soviet prisoners of war, and political 14 dissidents, suffered grievous oppression and death under Nazi 15 tyranny, and 16 WHEREAS, the history of the Holocaust offers an opportunity 17 to reflect on the moral responsibilities of individuals, 18 societies, and governments, particularly the duty to remain 19 vigilant against hatred, persecution, and tyranny, and 20 WHEREAS, pursuant to an act of the United States Congress 21 (Public Law No. 96-388, October 7, 1980), the United States 22 Holocaust Memorial Council has designated Sunday, April 24, 23 through Sunday, May 1, 2022, as the “Days of Remembrance” for 24 the victims of the Holocaust, including the Day of Remembrance 25 known as Yom HaShoah on April 28, 2022, and 26 WHEREAS, in memory of the victims of the Holocaust, in 27 honor of its survivors, and in utmost gratitude for the risks 28 taken by rescuers and liberators, the residents of this state 29 are encouraged to rededicate themselves to the principles of 30 human dignity and individual freedom in a just society, thereby 31 ensuring that such atrocities are never repeated, NOW, 32 THEREFORE, 33 34 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida: 35 36 That the week of April 24 through May 1, 2022, is 37 recognized as the “Days of Remembrance” and April 28, 2022, is 38 recognized as “Holocaust Remembrance Day” in Florida.
