SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 17
RECOGNIZING MARCH 2023 AS "COLORECTAL CANCER AWARENESS MONTH" IN THE STATE OF DELAWARE.
WHEREAS, March is recognized as National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, a month for raising awareness of colorectal cancer and its prevention; and
WHEREAS, colorectal cancer is the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths in Delaware; and
WHEREAS, colon cancer kills about 170 Delawareans every year; and
WHEREAS, the rate of death due to colon cancer in Delaware is 36% higher among African Americans in Delaware; and
WHEREAS, a healthy lifestyle and early detection through regular screening can help prevent colorectal cancer; and
WHEREAS, regular screening is recommended for people who are 45 years or older, have a family history of colorectal cancer, are overweight or obese, have a diet high in red meat and low in fruit and vegetables, smoke, or have other risk factors; and
WHEREAS, most preventive care is 100% covered; and
WHEREAS, colorectal cancer is highly treatable when detected early.
NOW, THEREFORE:
BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the 152nd General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the House of Representatives concurring therein, that the members of the General Assembly hereby recognize the month of March 2023 as "Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month" in the State of Delaware.
