148th GENERAL ASSEMBLY

HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 10

A RESOLUTION ENCOURAGING ALL RESIDENTS OF DELAWARE TO OBSERVE EARTH DAY ON APRIL 22, 2015.



WHEREAS, Earth Day is celebrating its 45th anniversary since its founding in 1970; and

WHEREAS, Earth Day is used as a teaching day to inform the public of the environmental impact humans are making to secure a healthy future for themselves and their children; and

WHEREAS, Earth Day has grown from a United States effort to an international effort with more and more elaborate celebrations with ever-increasing audiences; and

WHEREAS, events are planned to educate communities about different aspects of the Earth and how to take better care of the Earth; and

WHEREAS, children are the leaders of the future and it is paramount that they learn the importance of ensuring a safe and clean environment; and

WHEREAS, green schools are an effective agent for enacting significant positive environmental and educational change in schools and communities; and

WHEREAS, school vegetable gardens are a great way to teach students about growing vegetables, the role of soil, and making healthy food choices; ;and

WHEREAS, Healthy Foods for Healthy Kids is part of the green school movement, providing a farm-to-fork experience and part of the Billion Acts of Green Movement to protect the planet and secure a sustainable future.

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 148th General Assembly of the State of Delaware that we support the designation of April 22, 2015 as Earth Day.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that we recognize Healthy Foods for Healthy Kids as part of the green school movement.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that all of Delaware's citizens are encouraged to join the campaign to learn and raise awareness about Earth Day in the hope of achieving optimum health for today and tomorrow.
