RECOGNIZING THE STRONG TIES BETWEEN CANADA AND DELAWARE AND CELEBRATING CANADA DAY IN DELAWARE. |
WHEREAS, Canada is Delaware's largest international market, with $1,495,644,500 in merchandise exports to Canada in 2011, representing 27% of Delaware's international exports; and
WHEREAS, 24,700 Delaware jobs are supported by Canada – United States trade; and
WHEREAS, the Delaware - Canada partnership boasts a healthy bilateral tourism industry with over 48,100 combined visits accounting for over $25,000,000 in expenditures in 2010; and
WHEREAS, in 2011 Delaware exported more than $915,721,767 in pharmaceutical products to Canada; and
WHEREAS, both Canada and Delaware are engaged in partnerships in various fields of innovative technology which are laying the foundation for our economic future and mutual benefit; and
WHEREAS, this year Canada and the United States will commemorate the War of 1812, a war which forged the destiny of our continent and whose greatest legacy is 200 years of peace between Canada and the United States; and
WHEREAS, Canada and Delaware share many deep economic, historical, cultural and familial ties;
NOW, THEREFORE:
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 146th General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the Senate concurring therein, in recognition of the strong and lasting ties between Canada and the great State of Delaware, that the members join with Governor Jack Markell as he proclaims the twentieth day of March, in the year two-thousand and twelve, "Canada Day in Delaware."

This resolution recognizes the deep economic and cultural ties between Delaware and Canada and celebrates March 20, 2012, as "Canada Day in Delaware." |
