HOUSE BILL NO. 358

AN ACT TO AMEND TITLE 24 OF THE DELAWARE CODE RELATING TO DENTISTRY AND DENTAL HYGIENE.


BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF DELAWARE:


Section 1. Amend §1123, Title 24 of the Delaware Code by making insertions as shown by underlining and deletions as shown by strike through as follows:

§1123. Examinations.

(a) An applicant applying to take the Delaware practical (clinical) examination shall submit evidence, verified by oath satisfactory to the Board, that such person:

(1) When applying as a dentist, has received a degree in dentistry from a dental college or university accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association, or provides a letter of good standing from the dental college or university that certifies that the applicant is anticipated to graduate from the dental college or university within sixty (60) days from the date of the examination prescribed by the Board;

(2) When applying as a dental hygienist, has fulfilled the requirements set forth within §1122 (b)(1)-(3) of this title; `graduated from a dental hygiene college or university program of at least 2 academic years duration and accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association, or provides a letter of good standing from the dental hygiene college or university program that certifies that the applicant is anticipated to graduate from the dental hygiene college or university program within sixty (60) days from the date of the examination prescribed by the Board.


SYNOPSIS

This bill is the result of recommendations made by the Joint Sunset Committee. The purpose of this bill is to enable candidates for licensure as dentists and dental hygienists to sit for the practical examination required by the Board prior to graduation provided they provide a letter of good standing indicating they will be graduating within 60 days of the examination.
