Summary

This bill explicitly recognizes the Psychological Clinical Science Accreditation System (PCSAS) and the American Psychological Association (APA) as qualifying accreditors of a psychology program for purposes of holding a professional license as a psychologist or registering as a psychological assistant in the State. Under current regulation, only APA programs qualify. PCSAS was founded in 2007, is incorporated in Delaware and is supported in part by funds from the University of Delaware. Its purpose is to raise the standards of mental health care by accrediting science-based clinical psychology programs that are at the leading edge of treatment development and the dissemination and implementation of evidence-based practice. PCSAS has been recognized as a national accreditor of science-based clinical psychology programs by the Council of Higher Education Accreditation (the same Council which recognizes the older APA).
