AN ACT REQUIRING HOMEOWNERS INSURANCE RATE FILINGS TO BE SUBJECT TO PRIOR RATE APPROVAL BY THE INSURANCE DEPARTMENT.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That title 38a of the general statutes be amended to require (1) insurers to file rates for homeowners insurance policies with the Insurance Department, and (2) said department to review and approve such rate filings prior to such rates taking effect.

Statement of Purpose:

To expand the authority of the Insurance Department to review and approve homeowners insurance policy rate filings.
