AN ACT ESTABLISHING GEOTHERMAL RENEWABLE ENERGY CREDITS.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That the general statutes be amended to develop a geothermal renewable energy credit and brownfields geothermal renewable energy credit incentive program to allow utilities to purchase credits in the retail market from companies that produce geothermal energy and apply such credits towards their renewable energy portfolio requirements.

Statement of Purpose:

To encourage the production of geothermal energy as well as the environmentally-friendly redevelopment of brownfields by creating a market for geothermal energy credits and allowing utilities to purchase such credits and apply them towards their renewable energy portfolio.
