AN ACT REQUIRING CERTAIN DOCUMENTATION FOR THE SALE OF A LAW ENFORCEMENT BADGE.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That section 53-341a of the general statutes be amended to require that any person, firm or corporation selling or offering to sell a badge or shield that identifies the wearer as holding a specific office, title or position with a federal, state or local entity or agency must obtain from the purchaser a letter signed by the head of the federal, state or local government entity or agency encompassing the office, title or position of such person before completing the sale.

Statement of Purpose:

To prevent nonlaw enforcement officials from purchasing law enforcement badges.
