AN ACT CONCERNING LOTTERY WINNERS WHO ARE TAX DELINQUENT.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That chapter 226 of the general statutes be amended to require that, when any person redeems a winning lottery ticket worth five thousand dollars or more, the Connecticut Lottery Corporation (1) check the name and other identifying information of such person against a state tax delinquency database, and (2) if such person is included on the list of obligors, withhold from the lottery winnings payable to such person the amount of such obligation.

Statement of Purpose:

To require tax delinquents to pay any taxes owed the state before receiving lottery winnings.
