AN ACT CONCERNING THE SALES TAX.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That chapter 219 of the general statutes be amended to eliminate all exemptions to the sales and use tax, except groceries, prescription drugs and clothing under seventy-five dollars in value which will continue to be exempt from such tax. The sales tax shall be lowered to approximately three per cent.

Statement of Purpose:

To reduce the sales tax to a lower rate that will produce the same revenue after eliminating the majority of the exemptions.
