AN ACT ENCOURAGING THE PURCHASE OF FOOD PRODUCTS GROWN OR MADE IN CONNECTICUT.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

Section 1. (NEW) (Effective January 1, 2013) (a) A grocery store that sells or offers for sale a food product that has a traceable point of origin in the state shall post conspicuously, on a sign attached to the food product itself, on a sign affixed to each cash register or point of sale at which such food product is offered for sale, or on a sign so situated as to be clearly visible to the buyer from the register, that such food product has been grown or made in Connecticut.

(b) A grocery store required to post a sign regarding a food product pursuant to subsection (a) of this section shall identify on each purchaser's receipt the portion of such purchase consisting of food products having a traceable point of origin in the state.

This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following sections:
