AN ACT CONCERNING MEDICAID COVERAGE FOR DIABETES PREVENTION AND SELF-MANAGEMENT EDUCATION SERVICES.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

Section 1. (Effective from passage) Not later than October, 2016, the Commissioner of Social Services shall submit an application for a Medicaid waiver pursuant to Section 1115 of the Social Security Act to the joint standing committees of the General Assembly having cognizance of matters relating to human services and appropriations and the budgets of state agencies, in accordance with the provisions of section 17b-8 of the general statutes, for the purpose of providing diabetes prevention services to adults and children in households with income that does not exceed three hundred per cent of the federal poverty level.

Sec. 2. (Effective from passage) Not later than October, 2016, the Commissioner of Social Services shall submit a proposed Medicaid state plan amendment to the joint standing committees of the General Assembly having cognizance of matters relating to human services and appropriations and the budgets of state agencies, in accordance with the provisions of section 17b-8 of the general statutes, for the purpose of providing diabetes self-management education services to adults and children.

This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following sections:
