AN ACT CONCERNING COMMUNICATION BETWEEN THE DISABILITY RIGHTS ORGANIZATION AND THE DEPARTMENT OF DEVELOPMENTAL SERVICES REGARDING ABUSE OR NEGLECT OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:
Section 1. (NEW) (Effective July 1, 2018) (a) As used in this section, "disability rights organization" means the nonprofit entity designated by the Governor as the Connecticut protection and advocacy system in accordance with section 46a-10b of the general statutes.
(b) Upon receiving notification of an allegation of abuse or neglect of a person with disabilities by a provider of state-funded services, the Department of Developmental Services shall provide such person and such person's parent, guardian or other legal representative with information regarding the disability rights organization.
(c) The Department of Developmental Services shall notify the disability rights organization when it is investigating an allegation of abuse or neglect of a person with disabilities by a provider of state-funded services.
This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following sections: | ||

Statement of Purpose:
To require the Department of Developmental Services to notify persons with disabilities who allege abuse or neglect regarding the disability rights organization designated by the Governor as the Connecticut protection and advocacy system and to notify such organization if there is an abuse or neglect case under investigation by the department.
