AN ACT CONCERNING HIGHER EDUCATION FACULTY MEMBERS.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:
That subdivision (1) of subsection (d) of section 31-227 of the general statutes be amended to permit faculty members employed by a public institution of higher education to collect unemployment benefits for unemployment commencing during the period between two successive academic years or during a similar period between two regular terms, whether or not successive, if such faculty member performs services for such institution in an instructional, research or principal administrative capacity in the first of such academic years or terms and if there is a reasonable assurance that such faculty member will continue to perform services in any such capacity for such public institution of higher education or any other public institution of higher education in this state, provided an assignment at or offer of employment by such institution or any other public institution of higher education in this state that is contingent upon student enrollment, funding, program changes or the availability of other faculty members shall not constitute a reasonable assurance that such faculty member will perform services for purposes of this subdivision.
Statement of Purpose:
To allow part-time and temporary faculty members employed by public institutions of higher education in this state to collect unemployment benefits.
