BILL NUMBER: SCR 50 CHAPTERED BILL TEXT RESOLUTION CHAPTER 86 FILED WITH SECRETARY OF STATE AUGUST 24, 2012 ADOPTED IN SENATE MAY 7, 2012 ADOPTED IN ASSEMBLY AUGUST 20, 2012 AMENDED IN SENATE MAY 2, 2012 INTRODUCED BY Senator Fuller (Coauthor: Assembly Member Grove) JUNE 20, 2011 Relative to the Deputy Daniel Lee Archuleta Memorial Highway. LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST SCR 50, Fuller. Deputy Daniel Lee Archuleta Memorial Interchange. This measure would designate the interchange of State Highway Route 99 and State Highway Route 119 as the Deputy Daniel Lee Archuleta Memorial Interchange. The measure would request the Department of Transportation to determine the cost of appropriate signs showing this designation and, upon receiving donations from nonstate sources covering that cost, to erect those signs. WHEREAS, Daniel Lee Archuleta was born in Huntington Beach, California; and WHEREAS, Daniel Lee Archuleta attended Golden West College, where he received an Associate of Arts degree on October 20, 1996, and subsequently attended California State University at Long Beach, where he received a bachelor's degree on May 28, 1999; and WHEREAS, Daniel Lee Archuleta attended, and graduated from, the academy of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department at East Los Angeles College on February 20, 2001, and began employment with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department in February of 2001; and WHEREAS, Daniel Lee Archuleta was hired by the Kern County Sheriff' s Department on October 5, 2002, and was assigned to the Support Services Bureau, the Training Division, and the Resource Pool, and also worked temporarily in the Court Services Division. Daniel Lee Archuleta transferred to the Law Enforcement Bureau, South Area Substation Division, Taft Court on November 2, 2002, and on May 27, 2003, he entered the Field Training Officer Program and was promoted to Deputy Sheriff II on October 4, 2003; and WHEREAS, Daniel Lee Archuleta was killed on September 12, 2004, when his patrol vehicle rolled over on Tupman Road, just north of the west Kern County town of Tupman, while he was traveling south on Tupman Road responding to an emergency call; and WHEREAS, A deputy from the Kern County Sheriff's Department driving north on Tupman Road found the battered patrol vehicle in the southbound lane of Tupman Road, and Daniel Lee Archuleta was found dead at the scene; and WHEREAS, California Highway Patrol investigative units from Bakersfield and Fresno were called to the scene but were unable to ascertain the cause of the accident; and WHEREAS, Daniel Lee Archuleta leaves behind his wife, Laura, his two daughters, Victoria and Isabella, his parents, Don and Linda, his brother, Matt, and many other family members; now, therefore, be it Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, the Assembly thereof concurring, That in recognition of the distinguished and dedicated public service by Daniel Lee Archuleta, the Legislature designates the interchange of State Highway Route 99 and State Highway Route 119 the Deputy Daniel Lee Archuleta Memorial Interchange; and be it further Resolved, That the Department of Transportation is requested to determine the cost of appropriate signs consistent with the signing requirements for the state highway system, showing this special designation and, upon receiving donations from nonstate sources sufficient to cover the cost, to erect those signs; and be it further Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of this resolution to the Department of Transportation and to the author for appropriate distribution.
