CALIFORNIA LEGISLATURE—
2023–2024 REGULAR SESSION
Senate Bill
No. 359
Introduced by Senator Umberg |
February 08, 2023 |
An act to amend Section 2936 of the Penal Code, relating to prisons.
LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST
SB 359, as introduced, Umberg.
Prisons: credits.
Existing law prescribes incarceration in the state prison as punishment for certain crimes. The California Constitution grants the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) the authority to award credits earned for good behavior and approved rehabilitative or educational achievements. Existing statutory law requires CDCR to submit a report to the Legislature and the Legislative Analyst’s Office whenever CDCR proposes regulatory changes affecting the earning of credits by inmates.
This bill would make technical, nonsubstantive changes to that requirement.
