An act relating to senior to add Section 6735 to the Government Code, relating to health.


LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST


SB 1278, as amended, Laird. LGBTQ seniors: health care services. World AIDS Day.
Existing law requires the Governor to proclaim various days as holidays and days of remembrance.
This bill would require the Governor to annually proclaim December 1 as World AIDS Day.

Existing law sets forth various provisions relating to the health of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or queer (LGBTQ) seniors, including certain needs assessments by area agencies on aging, a bill of rights for long-term care facility residents, public health data collection and strategic planning, and hospital equity reports, with regard to sexual orientation and gender identity.

This bill would state the intent of the Legislature to enact legislation that would enhance health care services for LGBTQ seniors in the state.

The people of the State of California do enact as follows:


SECTION 1.

 Section 6735 is added to the Government Code, immediately following Section 6733, to read:

6735.
 The Governor shall annually proclaim December 1 as World AIDS Day.

SECTION 1.

It is the intent of the Legislature to enact legislation that would enhance health care services for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or queer (LGBTQ) seniors in the state.
