An act relating to controlled substances.

AB 864, as introduced, Low. Controlled substances: CURES database.
Existing law classifies certain controlled substances into Schedules I to V, inclusive. Existing law requires the Department of Justice to maintain the Controlled Substance Utilization Review and Evaluation System (CURES) database for the electronic monitoring of the prescribing and dispensing of Schedule II, Schedule III, and Schedule IV controlled substances by a health care practitioner authorized to prescribe, order, administer, furnish, or dispense a Schedule II, Schedule III, or Schedule IV controlled substance.
This bill would state the intent of the Legislature to enact legislation to transfer maintenance and operation of CURES from the Department of Justice to the State Department of Public Health no later than January 1, 2023.

The people of the State of California do enact as follows:


SECTION 1.

 It is the intent of the Legislature to enact legislation to transfer maintenance and operation of the Controlled Substance Utilization Review and Evaluation System (CURES) from the Department of Justice to the State Department of Public Health no later than January 1, 2023.
