An act to amend add Section 16001.7 of 16001.8 to the Business and Professions Code, relating to business licensing.

AB 498, as amended, Weber. Business licensing: fees: exemptions: veterans.
Existing law provides that every person who is honorably discharged or honorably relieved from the military, naval, or air service of the United States and is a resident of this state is entitled to obtain a license to distribute circulars and sell any goods, except alcohol, without payment of any business license fees.
This bill would also include services within the above-specified exemption to payment of business license fees for veterans. exempt a veteran who is honorably discharged or honorably relieved from the Armed Forces of the United States and is a resident of this state from paying any state or local business license fees for a business that sells or provides services if the veteran is the sole proprietor of the business.

The people of the State of California do enact as follows:


SECTION 1.

 Section 16001.8 is added to the Business and Professions Code, to read:

16001.8.
 A veteran who is honorably discharged or honorably relieved from the Armed Forces of the United States and is a resident of this state shall not be required to pay any state or local business license fees for a business selling or providing services if the veteran is the sole proprietor of the business.

SECTION 1.Section 16001.7 of the Business and Professions Code is amended to read:
16001.7.

Every person who is honorably discharged or honorably relieved from the military, naval, or air service of the United States and who is a resident of this state, may distribute circulars, and hawk, peddle and vend any goods, services, wares, or merchandise owned by the person, except spiritous, malt, or vinous, or other intoxicating liquor, without payment of any business license fee, whether municipal, county, or state, and the legislative body shall issue to that person, without cost, a license therefor.
