SENATE BILL 1489

 

 

 

AN ACT

 

amending title 16, chapter 8, article 1, Arizona Revised Statutes, by adding section 16-1104; relating to district lines.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1.  Title 16, chapter 8, article 1, Arizona Revised Statutes, is amended by adding section 16-1104, to read:

START_STATUTE16-1104.  Independent redistricting commission; counties; cities and towns; districts

Notwithstanding any other law, as a complement to and in addition  to the legislative and congressional district lines drawn by the independent redistricting commission as prescribed in article IV, part 2, section 1, the commission shall draw district lines for all of the following:

1.  Counties, including supervisorial districts and any other county level district lines that are otherwise required by law, if such districts delineate individual member districts.

2.  Cities and towns, including city or town council district lines, ward lines and any other city or town level district lines that are otherwise required by law, if such districts delineate individual member districts.

3.  School districts, special taxing districts and any other district lines that are otherwise required by law, if such districts delineate individual member districts.END_STATUTE

Sec. 2.  Conforming legislation

The legislative council staff shall prepare proposed legislation conforming the Arizona Revised Statutes to the provisions of this act for consideration in the fifty-first legislature, first regular session.
