AN ACT

 

Establishing the military veterans health care careers study committee.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1.  Military veterans health care careers study committee; duties; report; delayed repeal

A.  The military veterans health care careers study committee is established consisting of the following members:

1.  Two members of the house of representatives, one who is appointed by the speaker of the house of representatives and one who is appointed by the minority leader in the house of representatives.  The speaker of the house of representatives shall designate one of these members to serve as cochairperson of the committee.

2.  Two members of the senate, one who is appointed by the president of the senate and one who is appointed by the minority leader in the senate.  The president of the senate shall designate one of these members to serve as cochairperson of the committee.

3.  Three members who represent health care regulatory boards and who are appointed by the governor.

4.  Three members who represent health care associations whose members are regulated by health care regulatory boards and who are appointed by the speaker of the house of representatives.

5.  Two members who are veterans with health care experience in the military and who are appointed by the president of the senate.

6.  The director of the department of veterans' services or the director's designee.

B.  Members of the committee are not eligible to receive compensation or reimbursement of expenses.

C.  A majority of the members of the committee constitutes a quorum.

D.  The committee shall focus on creating career pathways for military veterans who have military health care experience.  The committee shall specifically consider positions in nursing, respiratory technology and radiology and as certified nurse anesthetists.  The committee shall analyze how the health care standards learned in the military compare with this state's standards and avenues that can be provided to assist veterans in obtaining health care careers.

E.  On or before December 1, 2018, the committee shall submit a report of its findings and recommendations to the governor, the president of the senate and the speaker of the house of representatives and shall provide a copy of this report to the secretary of state.

F.  This section is repealed from and after December 31, 2018.
