CHAPTER 188

 

SENATE BILL 1345

 

 

AN ACT

 

establishing the study committee on private land acquisition.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1.  Study committee on private land acquisition; membership; duties; report; delayed repeal

A.  The study committee on private land acquisition is established consisting of the following members:

1.  Three members of the senate, not more than two of whom are members of the same political party, who are appointed by the president of the senate.

2.  Three members of the house of representatives, not more than two of whom are members of the same political party, who are appointed by the speaker of the house of representatives.

3.  One county assessor who is appointed by the president of the senate.

B.  The study committee on private land acquisition shall:

1.  Conduct hearings and collect and analyze information relating to the acquisition of privately owned real property by government entities.

2.  Examine the impact that ownership of real property by a government entity has on the economies of this state and of local communities.

3.  Identify a process to allow a government entity to acquire privately owned real property without reducing the tax base of the local community.

4.  Submit a report regarding the study committee's activities, findings and recommendations to the governor, the president of the senate and the speaker of the house of representatives on or before December 31, 2017.

C.  This section is repealed from and after September 30, 2018.
