AN ACT
Providing for the procurement of discounted additional prison beds by the state department of corrections.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:
Section 1. State department of corrections; procurement of discounted additional prison beds
Beginning on the effective date of this act through June 30, 2012, if a private prison contractor submits an offer to the state department of corrections for additional prison beds over the number of prison beds that are under any current contract and the new prison beds are offered at a price of at least fifty per cent or more below the current contracted price, the department shall purchase those prison beds before securing any other comparable prison beds at a higher price.
Sec. 2. Emergency
This act is an emergency measure that is necessary to preserve the public peace, health or safety and is operative immediately as provided by law.
