AN ACT

 

Amending title 12, chapter 2, article 2, Arizona Revised Statutes, by adding section 12-214; relating to court commissioners.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1.  Title 12, chapter 2, article 2, Arizona Revised Statutes, is amended by adding section 12-214, to read:

START_STATUTE12-214.  Appointment of special commissioner; criminal cases

A.  In counties with a population of two hundred fifty thousand persons or more, the presiding judge may appoint justices of the peace to serve as special commissioners in criminal cases for the purpose of conducting initial appearances, preliminary hearings and arraignments for the superior court.

B.  Section 12‑119.04 does not apply to a justice of the peace who is appointed as a special commissioner under subsection A of this section. END_STATUTE
