"Sec. 3. Title 48, chapter 5, article 1, Arizona Revised Statutes, is amended by adding section 48-824, to read:
48-824. Firefighter; peace officer; residency requirement; prohibition; definitions
A. A fire district shall not impose any residency requirement on any firefighter or peace officer as a condition of employment.
B. FOR THE PURPOSES OF THIS SECTION:
1. "FIREFIGHTER" MEANS A PROFESSIONAL FIREFIGHTER WHO IS A MEMBER OF A CITY, TOWN, COUNTY OR FIRE DISTRICT FIRE DEPARTMENT.
2. "PEACE OFFICER" MEANS A deputy SHERIFF, CONSTABLE, MARSHAL, POLICE OFFICER AND ANY OTHER CITY, TOWN OR COUNTY OFFICER VESTED BY LAW WITH A DUTY TO MAINTAIN PUBLIC ORDER AND MAKE ARRESTS."
